Let’s Stop Mixing Up What We Know and What We Imagine

It’s been going on for years. Every week, some “leaker” on Twitter drops an unsourced claim, a YouTuber stretches it into a 20-minute video with an all-caps title, and suddenly everyone is convinced you’ll be able to fly boats in GTA 6. It’s exhausting.

So here’s the deal: a hard wall between facts and speculation. On one side, what Rockstar has shown, said, or confirmed. On the other, what’s still fog. No “my cousin works at Rockstar.” No “according to sources close to the project.” Just facts.

This article will be updated regularly. Last update: April 2026.

WHAT WE KNOW — The Certainties

The Game Exists (Yes, It Took a While)

Rockstar officially confirmed GTA 6 was in development in February 2022, via a social media post. The first trailer dropped on December 5, 2023. The second arrived in May 2025. After years of silence and speculation, the game is real, tangible, and well into production.

The Setting: The State of Leonida and Vice City

GTA 6 takes place in the fictional State of Leonida, clearly inspired by Florida. The main city is Vice City, GTA’s version of Miami, making its grand return after the 2002 game and its 2006 Stories expansion.

The trailers show a massive map including:

  • Vice City — the main metropolis, with its downtown, residential neighborhoods, and Art Deco waterfront
  • The Grassrivers — swamplands and wilderness areas (the Everglades, GTA-style)
  • Port Gellhorn — a port and industrial zone
  • The Leonida Keys — a tropical island archipelago to the south
  • Rural areas — small towns, ranches, gas stations in the middle of nowhere

Visually, it’s the most ambitious open world Rockstar has ever attempted.

The Protagonists: Lucia and Jason

Two playable characters confirmed by the trailers:

  • Lucia Caminos — the first female protagonist in a mainline GTA title. Of Latin American origin, she’s seen leaving prison at the start of Trailer 1. Her arc seems tied to a quest for redemption (or maybe not).
  • Jason Duval — the second protagonist, an American man. He forms a criminal duo with Lucia in a dynamic that evokes Bonnie & Clyde.

The trailers clearly show them working together in numerous scenes, suggesting a cooperative system rather than the free-switching mechanic from GTA V.

The Release Date: November 19, 2026

Originally announced for fall 2025, the game was pushed back. Take-Two Interactive confirmed a release date of November 19, 2026. Not a vague window — a specific date. Which is fairly reassuring.

Platforms: PS5 and Xbox Series X/S at Launch

The game will release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No PS4 version. No Xbox One. Rockstar is skipping last gen, which is a strong signal: the game is built to fully exploit current hardware.

The Tone and Time Period

GTA 6 takes place in the modern era. The trailers show smartphones, in-game social media, influencers, and internet culture. This is the GTA for the TikTok generation. The tone is both brutal and satirical, staying true to the series’ DNA.

WHAT WE DON’T KNOW — The Gray Areas

The PC Version

This is the million-dollar question for millions of players. Rockstar has never confirmed a PC release date. If we follow the usual pattern — GTA V came to PC a year and a half after consoles, Red Dead Redemption 2 arrived a year later — the PC version could land in late 2027 or early 2028. But nothing is official. Not a word.

PC players have every right to be nervous.

The Exact Map Size

We know the map is huge. We can see diverse areas in the trailers. But the actual size of the open world has never been communicated. Community estimates vary wildly. Some say twice the size of GTA V’s map. Others claim four or five times. The truth is that nobody knows.

The Multiplayer Mode

GTA Online was a generational phenomenon. Its successor is obviously in the works. But Rockstar has given zero details about GTA 6’s online mode. Will it be available at launch or a few weeks later, like in 2013? What’s the business model? Shark Cards again? A battle pass? We’re completely in the dark.

A Morality or Choice System

Some leaks have mentioned a reputation or moral consequence system, similar to the honor mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2. But nothing in the trailers confirms this. It remains purely speculative.

The Game’s Price

No official pricing announcement. Rumors fluctuate between $70 and $80 for the standard edition, with collector’s editions potentially exceeding $100. But until Rockstar speaks, these are just guesses.

Supporting Characters

The trailers show several recurring characters — names like Cal, DreQuan, and Raul have been identified — but their exact roles in the story remain unknown. Are they allies? Antagonists? Playable characters in certain missions? Mystery. Note: Ambrosia, sometimes mistakenly listed as a character, is actually a location — an iconic nightclub in Vice City.

Solo DLC

After GTA V, Rockstar famously abandoned planned single-player DLC to focus on GTA Online. Many fans still carry that grudge. Will GTA 6 get narrative expansions? Nobody knows, and frankly, given the precedent, skepticism is warranted.

The Leonida Keys, a still-mysterious zone on the map

The Bottom Line

What we know is already enormous: two compelling protagonists, a spectacular setting, a precise release date, a level of visual detail that borders on absurd. But what we don’t know is equally significant — and that’s where the community runs wild, sometimes rightly, often not.

Our advice? Savor the certainties. Have fun with the theories. But always keep that line between confirmed and imagined firmly in mind.

We’ll update this article as soon as Rockstar lets another piece of information slip. Knowing their communication pace, that could be tomorrow or six months from now. Patience. We’re used to it.
