GTA 6 Soundtrack and Radio
What the trailers already told us about the music, and what Rockstar is still keeping quiet
The trailer songs
Right now, the only real window into GTA 6's soundtrack is the pair of official trailers. Neither of them was scored carelessly.
Trailer 1: "Love Is A Long Road" by Tom Petty
ConfirmedDecember 2023. Ninety seconds that broke the internet, with Lucia's voice over the streets of Vice City and Tom Petty underneath. Petty came from Gainesville, Florida, the very state Rockstar reimagined as Leonida. Out of every hit the studio could have licensed, it picked an artist rooted in the geography of its own world. That tells you a lot about how this soundtrack is being built: every track has a reason to be there.
Trailer 2: more licensed music
ConfirmedThe second trailer, released in May 2025 and captured entirely in-game on PS5, kept the licensed music coming. Rockstar clearly isn't cutting corners on rights. We won't name a track here until we can verify it reliably, that's our house rule. You can rewatch both videos on our Trailers page.
Radio has been a GTA institution since 2001
Ever since GTA III, stealing a car and flipping through themed radio stations has been part of the series' DNA. The high point is still 2002's Vice City: seven stations, each with a personality of its own. Flash FM played Michael Jackson, V-Rock blasted Mötley Crüe, Emotion 98.3 made you cry to Foreigner, and Wave 103 taught a whole generation about new wave. VCPR, the talk station with its unhinged hosts, turned radio comedy into a franchise tradition. GTA V carried the torch with DJ-hosted stations and a massive catalog, later expanded through GTA Online with additions like iFruit Radio and the Music Locker club.
One nostalgia trap to avoid: the 2002 Vice City was set in 1986, which is why its pop and synth playlist defined the game. GTA 6 takes place in the present day, in the state of Leonida. So don't expect a pure 80s soundtrack. Expect a contemporary blend that mirrors modern Miami: Latin music, hip-hop, club electronica, probably with a few rock nods to the city's heritage. The Tom Petty pick in trailer 1 shows Rockstar hasn't abandoned its roots either. To be clear, this is our analysis, not an official announcement.
