Yet between the two official trailers and the character bios published on the Rockstar Games website, the pitch is unmistakable: GTA 6 tells the story of a criminal couple, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval, in the fictional state of Leonida. A tale of heists and getaways that openly embraces its Bonnie and Clyde lineage.

Lucia Caminos, where the story begins
Trailer 1, released on December 5, 2023, opens with Lucia in prison. Her now famous line sets the tone for the whole game: "The only way out of here is to keep going". Her official bio describes a former convict of Latin-American descent trying to rebuild her life in the state of Leonida. The story starts with a release from prison and a second chance, one she can seize or squander.
Lucia is also the first playable female protagonist in a mainline GTA since the series moved to 3D. From Claude to Tommy Vercetti, from CJ to Niko Bellic and on to the GTA V trio, the franchise had only ever put men at the center. Handing the heart of the story to a woman, and an ex-convict at that, is a bold narrative call from Rockstar.
Jason Duval, the other half of the duo
Jason's official bio places him in the Leonida Keys, where he works for Brian Heder, a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling, in exchange for a place to live. Impulsive but loyal, he is described as ready to do whatever it takes to protect the people he cares about. Together with Lucia, he forms the criminal duo Rockstar openly compares to Bonnie and Clyde.
Trailer 2 (May 2025) shows that dynamic in motion: two-person robberies, car getaways, quiet moments between jobs. It is the first time a GTA builds its main plot around a romantic relationship rather than around a lone protagonist or a trio with separate arcs.
Leonida as a narrative playground
The story unfolds in the state of Leonida, inspired by Florida. Vice City, modeled on Miami, is its beating heart, complete with neon, clubs like Ambrosia and an economy built on showing off. Around it lie the Grassrivers (Everglades-style swampland), the Leonida Keys to the south, the mountainous Mount Kalaga area and the port town of Port Gellhorn.
Rockstar has not said what role each region will play in the campaign. But Jason's bio anchors him in the Keys, Cal Hampton's mentions monitoring Coast Guard communications, and several characters belong to Vice City's music scene. It is easy to picture a story moving between the coast, the swamps and the city, though nothing about the actual mission structure has been confirmed. What the supporting cast hints at
Rockstar has published bios for several supporting characters, and each one reads like the promise of a story arc. Take this as a reading, not as fact: Raul Bautista, a seasoned bank robber recruiting talent for high-stakes operations, looks tailor-made to pull the couple into bigger and bigger jobs. Cal Hampton, Jason's paranoid friend who listens in on the Coast Guard, points toward smuggling by sea.
On the Vice City side, Boobie Ike (a local legend running real estate, a strip club and a recording studio), Dre'Quan Priest (a hustler turned boss of Only Raw Records) and the rap duo Real Dimez sketch out a world where crime and the music business feed each other.
