Standard or Ultimate: the no-mistake guide to pre-ordering GTA 6
Since June 25, the question is no longer when GTA 6 pre-orders would open, but which one to pick. Two editions, a twenty dollar gap, one shared bonus: the choice is simpler than the product pages make it look, provided you know what each package actually contains.
The head-to-head in one table
| Standard | Ultimate | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $79.99 | $99.99 |
| The full game | Yes | Yes |
| Exclusive vehicles | No | Yes |
| Exclusive weapons | No | Yes |
| Exclusive side missions | No | Two |
| Vintage Vice City Pack (pre-order bonus) | Yes | Yes |
| Preloading from November 12 | Yes | Yes |
| Platforms | PS5, Xbox Series X|S | PS5, Xbox Series X|S |
The point many people miss: the Vintage Vice City Pack is not an Ultimate perk. It is a pre-order bonus, attached to the act of pre-ordering, not to the edition you pick. What the extra twenty dollars actually buys is the exclusive vehicles, the weapons and the two exclusive side missions. Nothing else.
Who the Ultimate makes sense for
If you plan on spending hundreds of hours in Leonida, two side missions and exclusive content dilute their twenty dollars fairly fast. Players who bought the special editions of GTA V and RDR2 will recognize a familiar offer, in a more restrained form: no gaudy golden skin, no virtual currency announced at this stage.
If money is tight, the Standard contains the full game, the same pre-order bonus and the same preloading. No main story content is locked behind the Ultimate: Rockstar limited the exclusivity to side missions. You will most likely be able to upgrade later through a paid upgrade path, as the studio has always done, though that upgrade price is not yet known.

Physical or digital: the real strategic choice
The Standard versus Ultimate question is cosmetic next to this one.
On digital, there is no rush. Stock is infinite, the price will not move before November, and the November 12 preload guarantees you play from the first second. Pre-ordering now or the night before release changes strictly nothing, except the Vintage Vice City Pack could in theory be pulled from late pre-orders.
Physical is a different game. The most anticipated release of the generation will concentrate enormous demand on the first days, and launch stockouts are a serious possibility. If you want the box, pre-ordering early is the only way to secure a day-one copy. Several retailers also run a lowest-price guarantee: if the price drops before release, the difference is refunded. Early physical pre-ordering therefore costs nothing extra.
One last word of caution: only go through established retailers. The sites that sold fake pre-orders before June 25 have not all disappeared, and some are recycling their pages with fantasy strikethrough prices. At $79.99 everywhere, an aggressive “deal” on GTA 6 is a red flag, not a bargain.
